George Chiger and Larell Marie Mele are competing in Nathan's Famous Hot Domestic dog contest taking place Lord's day at Brooklyn's Coney Isle.
The longstanding contest, which started in 1916, is known to be the Super Basin of competitive eating.

Chiger and Mele are both members of Major League Eating, an organization that sponsors professional competitive eating events.
They met in 2010 while standing in line to pay their pecker at Blue Ridge Cable Company in Pocono Summit.
"I chuckled as she was telling the girls that she ate 15 hot dogs in 10 minutes and was going back to Coney Island to compete," Chiger, of Pocono Elevation, said. "Then she kind of called me out and said she needed someone to train with, and so I actually became her sparring partner for v or six years. If she was having 15 hot dogs, I would eat 16 and so on."
Mele, who is the 30th ranked eater in the world and lives in Long Pond, was more than happy to teach Chiger, now ranked the 15th eater in the globe, how to munch fast and against the clock.

"Practicing past yourself is boring and at that place'due south no motivation, so be able to take somebody else who wants to try doing this well with you is fun considering you push one another," she said. "You're trying to vanquish each other."
Practice pays off in contest
In 2015, she convinced Chiger to chase the mustard belt and compete at a qualifier for a spot in Nathan's popular swallow fest.
"I came in second identify and ate 17 hot dogs in 10 minutes," he said. "I was hooked."
At the fourth dimension, champion eater Eric "Badlands" Booker, fifty-fifty paid him a compliment.

Since Nathan's is the only competitive food contest that has carve up divisions for men and women, Mele, who placed second at last year's showdown, has a good take chances of winning the grand prize: $10,000.
